Pyrolysis Tank Reactor
For this project, I designed a 3D model of a pyrolysis reactor with a size constraint of about 1m x 1m x 1m. The reactor is meant to process waste from DAIS cultivation, using heat from a generatorโs exhaust to drive the process. I created the CAD model using Autodesk Inventor 2025 and ran heat transfer simulations in SimScale to analyze how the heat moves inside the reactor. The results will be discussed in the next sections.

Half Section View of the Tank

This 3D model was designed using Autodesk Inventor 2025. I incorporated two hot air inlets, sourced from the generatorโs exhaust, which are represented by the pipes on the bottom side of the tank. After circulating through the system, the exhaust air exits through the cold outlet pipes, visible as the two vertical straight pipes.
In this pyrolysis reactor design, I incorporated internal fins to enhance its thermal performance. These fins play a crucial role in improving heat transfer by increasing the surface area inside the reactor, allowing for better heat distribution. This ensures that the waste material undergoes pyrolysis more efficiently and evenly.
Additionally, the fins help prevent temperature inconsistencies by minimizing hot spots and cold zones within the chamber. They also guide the flow of hot gases, optimizing heat penetration throughout the reactor. Beyond thermal benefits, the fins contribute to the reactorโs structural integrity, helping it withstand high temperatures and internal pressure fluctuations.
By integrating these fins, the reactor design achieves greater efficiency, ensuring a more uniform and controlled pyrolysis process.
